Meet our team

Between all our instructors , we have hundreds of miles experience in the transport industry. To say that we know how to handle heavy vehicles is an understatement. Co-owner Ray has a relaxed and causal way of teaching. With 30+ years experience in the transport industry, Ray understands that the more comfortable you are, the easier it is for you to learn. BJ is the company's longest standing employee with many years experience in the transport industry, he is also known to be a very patient teacher.

Hr, HC, and MC

 

We provide a number of day courses or individual lessons for HR, HC and MC. They are as follows:

 

HR Courses.

 

  • Automatic Gearbox - one day or two day
  • Synchromesh Gearbox - one day or two day.
  • Road Ranger Gearbox - for those with experience is done in one day, with no experience is done in a two day.
  • Hourly lessons available.

 

HC Courses.

 

  • Automatic Gearbox - one day or two day
  • Synchromesh Gearbox - one day or two day.
  • Road Ranger Gearbox - for those with experience is done in one day, with no experience is done in a two day.
  • Two-hour block lessons available.

 

MC Courses 

 

  • Automatic Gearbox - one day or two day
  • Synchromesh Gearbox - one day or two day.
  • Road Ranger Gearbox - for those with experience is done in one day, with no experience is done in a two day.
  • Two-hour block lessons available.

 

LR Manual 

MR Manual and Automatic Courses and individual lessons

 

Approximately 2 to 4 hours of training followed by a test by an examiner.

 

All LR and MR testing is currently being conducted by the DOT, therefore you will need to obtain a learner's permit before booking in for your test for the LR or MR.

 

How many lessons will I need?

 

This is one of the most commonly asked questions we get here at Makene Driving School , but the answer is not that simple. Everybody learns at a different pace, with varying levels of experience.

 

However, the times outlined below should give you a rough estimate as to how many lessons you will need. Please remember that this is only a rough guide and that, dependent on your experience, you may require more or less than described.

 

LR Manual and Automatic Gearbox: 2-4 hours  & test

MR Manual and Automatic Gearbox: 2-4 hours  & test

 Extra lessons advisable if no experience.


HR Automatic Gearbox: 2-15 hours  &test                     all classes include theory &test

 

HR Synchromesh Gearbox: 6-15 hours  &test                all classes include  theory& test

 

HR Road Ranger Gearbox: 8-15 hours &test                  all classes include  theory&test

 

HC Automatic, Syncromesh and Road Ranger Gearbox: 4-15 hours    & test                                  all classes include theory&test

 

MC Automatic, Syncromesh and Road Ranger Gearbox: 4-15 hours   & test                                       all classes include theory&test
