What MC Courses Cover at Makene's Driving School
MC courses at Makene's Driving School teach you to drive a multi-combination vehicle safely and with confidence. We deliver nationally recognised training for TLIC4006, Drive Multi-Combination Vehicle. Our courses often run between 4 and 15 hours, depending on your experience. Some students may need extra training, and hourly lessons are also available.
Your instructor guides you through the skills the practical assessment looks for. These include vehicle control, road rules, risk management and safe load handling. You also learn about defensive driving, emergency procedures and fatigue management. Every step is explained in plain language, so you always know what to work on next.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Are MC Courses in Perth?
Most courses at Makene's Driving School run between 4 and 15 hours. Drivers with more heavy vehicle experience may need fewer hours, while others may need extra training. An instructor can give you an honest estimate when you call.
Do I Need a USI to Start MC Courses?
Yes, every student training or testing with us must have a Unique Student Identifier. Any registered training organisation requires one. You can find out how to get your number at usi.gov.au.
Does Gearbox Choice Matter for the MC Assessment?
Yes, your gearbox choice may limit what you can drive later. If you complete your practical assessment in an automatic, you may only be allowed to drive that gearbox type. Choose based on the trucks you plan to drive.
How Much Do MC Courses Cost in Perth?
The cost depends on the hours of training you need. We do not list set prices online, so please call 0418 948 152for a quote. We will ask about your experience first.
What Notice Do I Need to Give to Change a Booking?
We need three business days notice to cancel or change a booking. Otherwise, you may forfeit your fees. If your plans change, please call us as early as you can.
Who Can Enrol in MC Courses?
You can enrol if you already hold the right licence and have enough driving time behind the wheel. In Western Australia, you must have held a C-class licence for at least three years. You must also have held an HR or HC licence for at least one year.
Suspended or expired licence periods do not count toward these times. It is worth checking your dates before you book. You also need an eye test and must meet national medical standards. If you are not sure you qualify, read our guide, Are MC courses right for you, or call us for a straight answer.
Vehicles You Can Drive With an MC Licence
An MC licence lets you drive the largest heavy combinations on the road. That includes B-doubles, road trains and other multi-trailer combinations. These rigs often carry freight over long distances and between states.
Many drivers choose this class to open up long-haul and interstate work. Employers often value drivers who hold it. If you are still working through the earlier classes, see our heavy vehicle licence training in Perth page for the HR and HC options.
How the Course Works From Enquiry to Assessment
Our process is simple and built around the experience you already have. Here is how it usually runs:
1. Check that you meet the experience rules and have your USI number ready.
2. Call us to book a course or hourly lessons that suit your background.
3. Train with a qualified instructor, starting from our Malaga or Gnangara premises.
4. Sit your practical assessment with one of our approved assessors.
Our own approved assessors are on site daily for HR, HC and MC licences. That means you can train and be assessed with the same school. You may also like to read our before you begin page for what to organise first.
Training From Malaga and Gnangara
Makene's Driving School trains from two locations in Perth's northern suburbs, so you can choose the one closer to home. Lessons begin and end at our premises at 283 Victoria Road, Malaga, or Unit 2, 50 Boom Street, Gnangara.
